CLUB SERVICE
We meet every Tuesday at 17:15. Our attendance is well above 70%, both club and personal. We have 9 members.
Our committee chairmen are as follows:
One of our members, Jackie Ramsay, was appointed as AG.
Our activities are reported to the local press (The Advertiser and The Gariep Times)
We have no Ann club, but involve our partners and retired Anns as much as possible. We have the occasional braai or picnic on a Sunday, which all family members attend. We have dinners at special occasions such as the DG’s visit, the clubs birthday and award ceremonies. We make sure to invite Honorary Rotarians, the retired Anns, partners and any potential new members.
We handled the registration for POETS and did the catering for about 170 people.
Cradock helped us with the teas at POETS ’06 for which we paid them.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
We received 27 wheelchairs from ROMEX through the Wheelchair foundation in December 05 and distributed the chairs 2 weeks later. This project made us realize what a tremendous need there is for wheelchairs in the local community.
We entertain the elderly of the 3 sections of town each year. We had a very well attended braai at Huis Kiepersol in April ‘06; and Nov 05 we fed about 120 elderly people in Lowryville a two course cooked meal.
The old age home in Lowryville had a fence put around the property which was paid for by our Badisa Funds.
Through the Harley Davidson Rally that we are organising in conjunction with the Harley Owners committee we bring a lot of work opportunities to Colesberg, we also give churches and welfare organisations an opportunity to make money through stalls. We received R40 000, 00 from the Harley Committee and half of that money we intend to make available for a bursary towards tertiary education of a person from Colesberg.
INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
We have already played host to the GSE selections this year.
We hosted the GSE team from Texas for 2 days. Everybody had a good time out at the Gariep Dam
We had one matching Grant approved and we have another in progress for which we are looking for an overseas partner.
YOUTH
In June we played host to a group of Youth exchange students from overseas who are spending the year in Pretoria.
We do several things involving the youth in our town.
On 14 January 2006 some 60 school children, and a very few brave Rotarians climbed Coleskop to commemorate the placing of cannons on the mountain and subsequent actions during the Anglo/Boer war.
VOCATIONAL SERVICE
We assisted the Grade12 learners and the English Class with their transport cost for a vocational trip, the Grahamstown Science festival.
We sponsor schools prizes for "service above self" and best grade 12 English learner.
FAMILY OF ROTARY
This year we sent 2 grade 11 learners to RYLA in Potchefstroom.
We thank God for the opportunity to serve and although our own effort might seem from time to time to be a drop in the bucket, it is the appreciation of those few people, in whos lives the efforts made a difference, that make it all worthwhile.
